The Taylor Comport Scholarship & Professional Development Fund provides tuition assistance and career development opportunities for Providence of Maryland’s staff to help them grow professionally and personally, and continue to provide the best possible support to the nearly 400 people who count on Providence of Maryland.

The Fund has been established by the Comport family and their friends in memory of their daughter Taylor who Providence supported for 13 years, and in honor of the staff who worked with Taylor and who were so important to Taylor and her family.

Taylor & Providence

Providence of Maryland is a nonprofit that supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to discover and live their best lives in their communities across Maryland.

With the support of Providence staff, Taylor filled her days with friends and activities, doing things she enjoyed with people she loved and trusted and who mentored her to discover and live her short life to the fullest. Her amazing mentors were not only important to Taylor but became close to us as well and we are grateful for the support they provided to our family over the years.

Providence’s direct support staff are the foundation of the organization’s mission. The trusting relationships and friendships they build with the people they support are the starting point to mentor someone to develop skills, discover opportunities, step outside of comfort zones, and define, advocate for, and reach life goals.

Staff turnover is so detrimental to this process; unfortunately, it is a reality for  providers like Providence whose wages are defined by state reimbursement levels that don’t match up to the hard work and talent required of these critical staff members.

Benefits like tuition assistance are vital to attracting and retaining the great direct support staff needed to deliver on the mission of Providence of Maryland.
